Craiglist.org’s Craig Newmark wants the world to know the real President Barack Obama.

“This is the first nerd presidency,” Newmark told the POLITICO podcast. “The president has been caught — even on tape — giving the Vulcan salute, which we now refer to as the nerd salute. I for one welcome our new nerd overlords.”

Although Newmark and his company are based in San Francisco, he’s taken a recent interest in Washington. He wants to encourage and facilitate the use of technology by government agencies in order to more effectively serve the public.

“You provide a platform which is simple and fast. You stay engaged with your community, but otherwise, you know when to get out of the way,” said Newmark, alluding to his own philosophy behind Craigslist.org and how it might improve Washington.
